Painting - Seascape, Translucent Waves

Translucent Waves

acrylic on canvas
36cm x 34cm

It was raining when I arrived at the beach and I had to sit in the car for ages waiting for it to stop.

When I began to paint the sky was still very cloudy but blue gradually emerged as I worked. The waves seemed unusually thin and translucent and they appeared almost to linger before they broke. I could see the seaweed suspended in them and the way they held the light. And a small boat sailed by while I was painting, which happens surprisingly rarely, so I took the opportunity to put it into the picture.
