acrylic on canvas
36cm x 34cm
The wind was warm and strong today and the sea turbulent and noisy. Foam had formed all along the water's edge and since the tide was going out, I positioned myself right next to the breaking waves.
This proved to be a mistake because some way into the painting a large dollop of grubby foam landed directly in the middle of the sky, leaving me no choice but to wipe the top half of the canvas clean and start again. Fortunately the horizon line survived, or the painting would have been ruined, and I was pleased with the finished work. But there are still a few spots and splashes visible in the sea, as a testament to the event.
